Necessary Candle Supplies

Candles are so reminiscent of those earlier, less complicated days when they were the only source of illumination. In our homes, a candle's welcoming glow lures us inside, and invites us to linger in the aura of simpler times, when firelight was the only source of illumination and warmth. The soft, soothing glow of candles provides a welcome relief from the callous glare of electric bulbs and sickly light of fluorescent tubes. And a stylish, artistically shaped and perfumed candle pleasantly complements any room.
Even the most elaborate candles are remarkably easy to make. The ability to boil water is the only prerequisite for candle making. Very few candle supplies are required. All you really need for candle making is wax, stearic acid - a natural emollient, emulsifier and thickener (available in any local craft shop), dye, a wick, and a few common domestic items. No special workshop is required either. You can work anywhere, as long as there is a gas stove to boil water nearby.
As mentioned, only a few candle supplies and materials are needed for candle making and the majority of them can be easily purchased at the local craft store or found around the house. Essential oils for the essence maybe purchased at the local health store or aromatherapy store, or ordered through the Internet. Mail order or the Internet will generally be the most inexpensive way to buy essential oils, although the local store may be more reliable.
The following tools and candle supplies are indispensable for making candles: candle dye, candle molds, candle or candy thermometer, candle wax, candle wick tabs, candle wicks, double boiler, essential oils, kitchen scale, metal pouring pot, mold release, mold sealer and wax additives. Most manufactures of candle supplies provide wax compounds that designed specifically for containers, molds, tapers, etc. This takes some of the speculation out of trying to establish which additives are required for the style of candle that you are making.
The expense of candle making in keeping with the candle supplies and tools required is very low. After you become proficient at creating elegant candles you can even offset the cost and earn a good income by selling them.
